K.I.S.S

Posted by A.R |

I have a thing for living in an apartment 5 minutes walking distance from the city. I love being in the city and i love the city. I love the magnificence that the city exudes with its tall buildings and city lights. All built with a finite level of human intelligence. I remember telling people that i was gonna work in one of the coolest building in Malaysia, if not the most. I remember gazing out of my apartment once upon a time and looking at this particular building that i knew would be quite cool to work in. It made it all the more exciting when i found out that it was an oil and gas company.

So city and apartments, the two best combination for me. I love the thought of New York & Manhattan apartments. It's like I'm made for city apartments. I dont need a 20,000 sqft mansion considering I'm one lazy ass to walk around so much the house. I like everything within my reach, or else i'll have to hire someone with a wheelbarrow to wheel to the bathroom and kitchen.

It amazes me to see how people utilize their space, especially in 100sqft and 200sqft. It's tight, but hey some people call this home. And they do it with  style!

Apartment Therapy

I came across this genius who provides solutions to small spaces.

Isnt that brilliant? I love the way the founder, Ron Barth talks about his products. He has this happy and excited look on his face when he talks about it and you kinda know that he has the passion for it. Either that or he just happens to have a really happy face.

I like it that the concept seems really fundamental and basic. I remembered during my Design for Manufacture class, the lecturer told us to design a toilet paper holder. There i go, sketching all my spring loaded mechanism to detach the toilet paper roll from the holder and a flap to make sure that water doesnt get to it, yada yada yada. Turns out, almost the entire class did that. In the end he announced his favorite design:
before smacking us with a big K.I.S.S.
Keep It Simple, Stupid.

It was then I realized that humans like to complicate things. And that most of us have the tendency to prove how smart we are. But anyway, I love what Ron has come up with and i wish that there are more local innovaters like him. If there's such a word.

There's another person I came across who definitely stretched the limit. Kudos to you Gary Chang. You're brilliant. But i dont think it'll work much for me coz like i said, I'm a lazy ass, so i cant be bothered pushing walls while i still have boogers in my eyes.
