Happy Herbs

Posted by A.R |

From Happycow

I'm very much influenced by the shows on AFC where they freshly chop the herbs from the pots sitting nicely in their window sil. My favourite herb is oregano, i put it in almost everything! But I've yet to try using the fresh ones. For those staying in an apartment, the windows aren't conviently located above the kitchen sink, sadly. However, Aino Kitchen's Santuario gives just the flexibility to do that. Pretty neat.

Else, if you have a big balcony, you can always plant your herbs there. Just like what Susann Larsson did, as read from Apartment Therapy, it doesnt look that hard to create a terraced herb garden.

I can't wait to get my own herb garden! I'm so going to plant curry leaves! Wait, is that herb or spice?

Black Ink Squid

Posted by A.R |

Well this might be disgusting for some of you but sotong masak hitam (Squid with Black Ink) is definitely one of my favourite dishes! Even the italians make pasta out of squid ink. Yeah the black pasta. But this is asian style yo! Especially famous among the Malaysian Johorians.
Like any dish, there are numerous ways to make it. The way I did mine was to mix the uncooked squid with salt, tumeric, curry powder and chilli powder. And of course, dont throw out the ink from the squid, duh. You can opt to use the ink from a couple of squids, or all of them, depending on how black you want it. Fry it with some big onions and and add some water if you like lotsa gravy. You can see that i like mine with lotsa it.

You should try it!

A New Year's Eve

Posted by A.R |

Last new year's eve was homey get together at Shila's house. It was a simple grill night with attractive looking finger food that i had the utmost joy in preparing them.
I know some of us really had fun making the sausage cocktail ;). Having to watch too much of AFC gave me the itchiness to make my own biscuit finger food, which I adamantly googled for the recipe and idea and found the prefect base idea here at Chefatwork. I'll call it creamy mushroom and capsicums. Extremely easy to make and it tastes awesome. I love mushrooms. Another one i did was a limited edition of sauteed mushroom on biscuits :D.
Well apart from the grilled/bbq food (with minimal butter/oil!), i must say it was a pretty healthy spread that night. We also had mushroom soup, mashed potato, garlic bread, tuna on biscuits, and salad with dippings! Dippings include hommus and thousand island.
As for desserts, I wouldnt say it's all healthy. Chocolate brownies and vanilla ice cream. Yum.

P/s - Raves on Shila's den deserves an entry on its own.
